What is this lawsuit about?

Slater Vecchio has submitted a class complaint to the BC Human Rights Tribunal alleging that British Columbians with physical disabilities experience differentiated access to Uber or Lyft’s services because of their physical disability or use of a wheelchair or similar assistive device.

Uber and Lyft provide ride-hailing services throughout British and Canada. While both Uber and Lyft offer wheelchair-accessible services elsewhere in Canada, neither company provides wheelchair-accessible services throughout British Columbia.

While individuals can order wheelchair-accessible vehicles through Lyft in a few regions in British Columbia, Uber does not offer wheelchair-accessible services anywhere in British Columbia.

British Columbia’s Human Rights Tribunal recently ordered Uber to pay $35,000 to an individual who required use of a wheelchair and who was unable to access wheelchair-accessible services through Uber.

Slater Vecchio is investigating whether more individuals with a physical disability who were unable to obtain wheelchair-accessible services from Uber and Lyft in British Columbia are entitled to compensation.

If you have a physical disability and require a wheelchair or similar assistive device for mobility and have faced difficulties using Uber or Lyft’s services in British Columbia, Slater Vecchio would like to hear from you.
