According to CBC, the tip of the storm will generate winds of 85 mph to the Haida Gwaii region and rain to most of the province.
ICBC has warned drivers travelling this weekend to be prepared for the changing weather conditions. Regional statistics show that on average, three people are killed and 520 people are injured in 1,800 crashes in BC over the Thanksgiving long weekend.
Here are some safety tips to help you stay safe this long weekend:
- Check road and weather conditions at drivebc.ca;
- Allow extra time to travel, there could be more traffic due to the holiday weekend;
- Do a vehicle inspection before you begin your trip;
- Make sure you have winter tires. From October 1- March 31 drivers are required to use winter tires on some BC Highways; and
- With anticipated wet road conditions, slow down and give yourself at least twice the normal braking distance.
