What is this lawsuit about?

Slater Vecchio LLP has filed a class action lawsuit in both British Columbia and Quebec alleging that Lenovo, Walmart and Best Buy have deceived Canadians into purchasing laptops that are worth much less than these companies advertise.

Through their Canadian websites, Lenovo, Walmart and Best Buy offer Lenovo laptops alongside representations as to the regular price and discount price of these products. Despite representing that these laptops are normally offered for sale at their regular price, and in turn are rarely offered at a discount, the opposite is true. Lenovo, Walmart and Best Buy rarely, if ever, offer these laptops for sale at their ‘regular price’ and instead always, or almost always, offer them for sale at a so-called discount price well-below the alleged regular price.

As a result of this conduct, individuals who purchased a Lenovo Laptop obtained less value than Lenovo, Walmart and Best Buy represented they would obtain by purchasing these products.

What is a class action?

A class action is a legal case through which one person makes a claim to the Court on behalf of a similarly situated class of people who have the same or a similar legal claim. A class action seeks to hold a defendant or defendants responsible for their conduct that affects each member of the class by resolving issues that are common to the class in the same legal proceeding, instead of each class member bringing a claim individually.

The individual who files the claim must ask the Court for permission to proceed as a class action.  If permission is granted, and the case may proceed as a class action, the Court will appoint an individual as “Representative Plaintiff” to represent the best interests of the class during the litigation and define the class group. Each person who meets the criteria of the class group is considered a “Class Member”.

Who do these class actions represent?

Slater Vecchio LLP seeks compensation for all individuals and legal persons in Canada who purchased one or more Lenovo Laptops from Lenovo, Walmart or Best Buy at a “discount price” that was lower than the product’s alleged regular price.
