Grimmway Farms issued a recall on November 18, 2024, for various brands of organic carrots sold in Canada due to the possible contamination of these products with E.coli O121. The recall – identified as RA-76535 – was published by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency on the Canadian federal government’s “Recalls and Safety Alerts” webpage.
Grimmway Farms – headquartered in Bakersfield, California – is the world’s largest grower, producer, and shipper of carrots. Grimmway Farms recalled its carrot products in Canada after an E.coli outbreak linked to Grimmway Farms’ carrots in the United States. So far, there have been at least 39 illnesses, 15 hospitalizations, and one death linked to Grimmway Farms’ carrots in the United States.
Food contaminated with E.coli can still make you sick even if it does not look or smell spoiled. Individuals who consume products contaminated with E.coli may experience symptoms including but not limited to nausea, vomiting, mild to severe abdominal cramps, watery to bloody diarrhea, strokes, seizures, kidney damage, and even death.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency urges Canadians to: contact their healthcare provider if they believe that they fell ill after consuming a recalled product; check to see if they have purchased a recalled product; not eat any recalled products; and discard or return any recalled products.
