Joel V. Payne joined Slater Vecchio after spending his early years practicing complex corporate/commercial litigation at two of the top litigation firms in Vancouver. He decided to change his practice to plaintiff personal injury law so he can use his skills and experience to make a real difference in the lives of his clients. Personal injury law allows Joel to combine his passion for negotiation and courtroom advocacy with his belief that law is a helping profession.
Joel has a wide range of experience in mediation and arbitration, and has represented clients in all levels of court in Canada, including the Supreme Court of Canada. Joel has successfully argued cases in Provincial Court, the British Columbia Supreme Court, the British Columbia Court of Appeal, and the Federal Court of Appeal.
Before he was called to the bar, Joel spent a year as a judicial law clerk to two justices of the British Columbia Court of Appeal.
Outside of the practice of law, Joel enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, mountain biking, walking or biking the Seawall around Stanley Park, and touring B.C.’s wine country. Joel is also an avid chess player.
