Spinal Cord Injury
For most people, paralysis resulting from an auto accident or motorcycle accident is permanent. A person with a spinal cord injury may face months or years of medical treatment and rehabilitation to learn new ways to manage activities of daily living.
This may require a lifetime of supports to cope with a multitude of physical, emotional, cognitive, psychosocial and environmental factors that will affect quality of life and create barriers to future living options
A life care planner with expertise in rehabilitation science and spinal cord injuries will prepare a future life care plan with the objective of providing optimal care to maximize the physical and mental well-being of the spinal cord injured person.
The purpose of the recommendations is to enable access to various supports, to compensate for ongoing problems, to facilitate quality of life, and to prevent future complications. The ultimate goal is to enable the spinal cord injured person to have options in life and a quality of life that closely resembles what he would have experienced but for the accident that caused the spinal cord injury.
